Harwell and Hendred returned to league football with a home fixture against the improving Abingdon Youth. In their first meeting, back in mid-September at Abingdon, H&H had been the victors by the amazing score of 12-5. It was generally anticipated that this current game would be a much closer affair. A heavy morning mist, proving slow to clear, pervaded the whole playing area, making visibility a problem for some spectators.
Ricky in action early on, breaking up an Abingdon attack. James "M" and Josh both quick to find touch as the visitors threatened. Abingdon forced a corner, which H&H managed to clear. James "O", rushing forward at pace, was clearly going to be a source of danger to the away defence. James "M" and Ricky, both again in evidence as the visitors went forward. A cross from the wing by Scott was met by the Abingdon keeper, who initially fumbled the ball, but soon recovered. After about eight minutes, the home side took the lead. A long ball forward created some confusion in the Abingdon defence. The visitors failed to clear and the ever alert Cody was on hand to smash the ball home. H&H were ahead 1-0.
Abingdon tried to respond, but were met by some effective defending, particularly by the resolute Ricky. Paddy came to collect as the visitors failed to take advantage of a good opportunity. James "O", Calum and Scott combining well in attack for H&H. The home side caught offside as they tried to advance. George quick to find touch as Abingdon pressed. Scott initiated a move to James "O", who then broke clear, beat a defender, almost found Calum, before the away defence closed in and managed to scramble the ball away, the keeper completing the clearance. Abingdon won a corner. Scott met the spot-kick, immediately moved the ball forward to James "O". He returned the ball to Scott, who then placed a fine pass through towards Cody, but again the away rearguard were there to intercept and clear. Calum almost got an effort away, but the Abingdon keeper came out to challenge and in so doing, averted the danger. The visitors shot wide, when well placed.
Harwell and Hendred made a substitution. Harvey coming on to replace James "M".
Abingdon pressing hard, but were met again by some spirited defending by George, Ricky, Josh and Harvey. A long ball forward by the visitors was well collected by Paddy. A superb pass by Calum put James "O" well in the clear. The home striker made no mistake with a fine shot, which gave the keeper no chance. With 17 minutes gone, Harwell and Hendred led 2-0.
Clever play by Scott and Calum almost provided another opportunity for James "O", but the keeper came out to gain possession. Scott just shot over the bar as H&H continued to advance. There was a short stoppage when Cody went down under a challenge, but he soon resumed. A terrific effort by Samuel resulted in some anxiety within the away defence. The Abingdon keeper failed to hold the shot. The ball was then kicked off the line, as Cody rushed in. The corner that followed was cleared
Strong running by the Abingdon forwards saw then break through the H&H defence. Paddy came out to confront the danger, but as he did so, Abingdon's advancing forward, William Dunbar, placed the ball past him into the empty net.
Encouraged by their success, the visitors again went forward. Ricky, Samuel and Harvey made some positive clearances. Within less than two minutes, Harwell and Hendred restored their two-goal advantage with a repeat of the movement that had led to their second goal earlier. Another example of his natural ability saw Calum produce a great through ball to the fast-moving James "O". The H&H striker found himself in the clear again. As the Abingdon keeper came out to challenge, James cleverly placed the ball over his head into the net to put his side 3-1 ahead.
A period of sustained pressure by the visitors followed, but the home defence held firm. Paddy made a fine save, pushing the ball behind for a corner, which was well cleared. Abingdon doing their utmost to try and get back into the game. Strong defending again by Ricky and Samuel.
Harwell and Hendred made a substitution, Maili coming on to replace Josh.
The Abingdon forwards caught offside twice as they tried to create something. The determined Scott won a corner for H&H, but the visitors managed to clear. Jack working hard to support his forwards throughout the game, also back defending when required.
Half-Time: Harwell and Hendred 3. Abingdon Youth 1.
George replaced by James "M" at the start of the second half.
H&H won an early corner, but it came to nothing. Continuing pressure by the home side saw crosses from both Scott and Calum being well picked up by the Abingdon keeper. With less than three minutes gone since the restart, Harwell and Hendred increased their lead further. Scott's speed enabled him to latch on to a long ball forward, then make room for himself before striking a powerful shot past the keeper. H&H now in front by 4 goals to 1.
Maili, James "M" and Jack completing some good clearances as the visitors tried to reply. Jack's strong ball forward was collected by the away keeper. Jack and James "O" combining well as H&H tried to advance down their right wing. James "O's" pace a clear threat to the Abingdon defence. The visiting keeper came out to pick up a long ball forward by Calum. Strong tackling by Maili and a fine clearance by Harvey as the visitors tried to put pressure on the home defenders. Scott's persistence forced the away side to concede a corner, but the spot-kick was well cleared. Calum, battling for possession, the ball breaking to James "O", whose fine effort was well saved by the Abingdon keeper. Harwell and Hendred player deemed offside as they continued to press forward. The visitors won a corner, but nothing resulted from it.
Scott brought down as he tried to pick up a forward pass from Jack. The Abingdon player involved was badly hurt in the incident. There was about a three-minute stoppage, whilst the player received attention. Eventually he had to leave the field, Abingdon making the necessary substitution. Resulting free-kick to Harwell and Hendred was headed clear by the visitors.
Scott, breaking forward at speed, tried to find Cody. The away keeper recognised the danger, came out and put the ball into touch. Interplay between James "O" and Jack and then between Calum and Scott putting considerable pressure on the away defenders. The Abingdon defence were managing to contain the H&H forwards, however, not allowing them any room to produce any effective attempt. The visitors produced an effort which went just past the post. Harvey again made another fine clearance. H&H caught offside as they tried to advance
Movement between James "O" and Jack led to the ball breaking towards Cody. As Cody went to get possession, he was brought down, the referee then awarding a penalty. Cody took the spot-kick himself but put the ball just wide.
Limited opportunities for either side seemed to be a feature of the play as the game reached the halfway point of the second half, defenders coping well with the efforts of each opposing attacking movements.
Substitution by Harwell and Hendred. Harvey coming off to be replaced by George.
Scott deemed offside as the home side advanced. An Abingdon player required treatment after being brought down, but he was soon able to carry on. Scott's efforts won H&H another corner, but the visitors were able to clear. Strong tackling by Ricky as Abingdon looked to get ahead. Good approach work by Calum, Samuel and Scott produced yet another corner for H&H. Jack's spot-kick was headed clear, almost reached James "O", but he was crowded out before he could get a shot away. Calum picked up the loose ball, cleverly rounded a defender and then put a fine cross back into the Abingdon goal area. Samuel and Cody both tried hard to pick up on the cross, but the visitors were defending in numbers and got the ball clear.
Paddy, who'd had a fairly quiet second half came to collect as Abingdon threatened. The hard-working Calum also back defending. H&H won another corner, taken by Jack, but the visitors cleared. Maili quick to break up a movement forward by the away side. Paddy had to come and collect again and then Abingdon won a corner, but the home defenders were able to get the ball away.

With time running out, he took the corner himself. The ball came back to him. His continuing forceful play won his side another corner. Scott took the second spot-kick. The away defence cleared, but back came H&H . A great shot by Scott was cleared, followed by a tremendous effort by Calum just as the final whistle went.

Early movement forward by the visitors involving Samuel, Calum and Scott, supported by Ricky. The home keeper had to come and collect as Cody rushed in. Radley advanced, but the H&H defence closed in quickly, restricting the ability of the home side to produce any effective opportunity, Paddy coming out to gain possession when required. Good defending by Josh and Scott during the early exchanges. A throw-in, taken by Scott, was picked up by Calum. Clever play by the industrious Calum saw him produce a fine effort, which was clearly heading for the top corner, but somehow the home keeper just got a hand to it and kept the ball out. Samuel, working hard, trying to create an opening. Pressure by Radley was met with some spirited defending by Maili, James and Harvey. Calum rounded a defender and sent in a fine effort goalwards. The keeper failed to take the ball cleanly. He managed to recover, however, enabling him to regain possession before the ball entered the net. Cody much in evidence as the away side pressed.

Radley again had the ball in the net, but their striker was deemed offside. James continued to defend well as the home side pressed. Josh, too, made some effective clearances. H&H striving hard in search of an equaliser, but the Radley defenders were quick to break up any movement forward by the visitors. Scott's persistence won a corner, followed by another corner. Radley got the ball away, but back came Harwell and Hendred. A fine movement commencing with Maili, on to Ricky, then to Samuel, who found Calum. Calum crossed to Scott, whose strong attempt rebounded off a defender for yet another corner. Jack's spot-kick fell to Samuel, who hit the ball first-time but his shot went directly at the keeper. The fast-moving Scott kept up the pressure. He got past a defender to then strike a great effort but again straight at the keeper.
Radley, attacking, won a corner which was met by a home forward, who headed just wide. The home side went further ahead when H&H failed to clear, Radley's Fyn O'Shea taking full advantage to increase his side's lead to 2-0, with just 20 minutes gone.
H&H made a substitution, George coming on to replace James.
Ricky and George both doing well in defence as Radley continued to go forward. Scott trying his utmost to create an opportunity for the visitors, linking well with Josh, but the home side closed in and cleared. Radley again went close, their attempt going just wide of the post. Cody received a knock, but was able to continue. Paddy had to come and kick clear as the home side advanced. Radley then went further ahead. A long, high ball, sent some distance forward from the left wing by their Craig Lawson, went well over Paddy's head into the back of the net. The away keeper had no chance and the home side now led 3-0.
Radley continued to enjoy a lot of possession. They forced a corner which was cleared by George. Another effort by the home side just went wide. There followed a superb save by Paddy, tipping a tremendous Radley attempt over the bar. Corner followed and then two more successive corners, before the ball went behind for a goal-kick. During the melee that developed during the third corner, George received a knock and had to leave the field. James came back on for the visitors. The home side again threatened, but again their effort went just past the post. Paddy came out to secure the ball as Radley kept up the pressure. Scott, with so much determination, forced his way forward, then almost found Calum, but the home defence intercepted and cleared. Another effort by Scott just went behind as the first half came to an end.
Half-Time: Radley Youth 3. Harwell and Hendred 0.
No changes made to either side at the start of the second half. Fine ball by Calum to Scott saw the winger's powerful cross strike the keeper's legs before being cleared. H&H forced a corner, taken by Jack. Spot-kick met by Cody, who returned the ball to Jack, but again Radley closed in and got the ball away. Paddy came to collect as the home side pressed. After just two minutes play, Radley achieved their fourth goal. Fyn O'Shea raced head to pick up a long, through ball, held off a challenge, and then produced a tremendous shot to record his second success of the match.
Calum, Cody, Ricky and Jack all fighting hard to get possession, but Radley were quick to the tackle, restricting the away side's progress. The home side made two substitutions at this stage of the game. Another period of sustained pressure by Radley saw H&H just manage to scramble the ball away. Radley's long balls forward tending to cause some concern to the visitors'defence, as the home forwards raced forward to try and collect. Paddy came out to pick up projected balls forward on several occasions as Radley kept up this direct approach. H&H forced a corner which came to nothing. There was a short stoppage, whilst a Radley player received treatment.
An ambitious overhead effort by one of the Radley forwards fell straight into Paddy's arms. Harwell and Hendred trying to make inroads into the Radley half. Ricky, Jack, Calum and Scott much in evidence. The visitors, however, were unable to find any positive opening, the home defence containing any movement forward. Radley made another substitution as the half progressed. Josh, Harvey and James defending well during another period of incessant pressure by the home side. Radley almost achieved a fifth goal, Harvey kicking the ball off the line. Another effort by Radley was well taken by Paddy. The away keeper, again in action shortly afterwards, making a fine save low down. A corner to the home team was well cleared by Calum. Radley forward deemed offside as they again advanced.
With about 15 minutes left to play, Radley scored again. Another powerful strike from distance, again from a left wing position, went way over Paddy's head into the net. The away keeper had no possible hope of keeping it out. Fyn O'Shea had achieved his hat-trick, and Radley led 5-0.
Scott, never short of endeavour or commitment, striding purposely down the left wing, won a corner for the visitors, but it came to nothing. Paddy did well to gain possession as a home forward advanced towards him. Great defending by Harvey as Radley looked to increase their lead further. Paddy came out to collect as the home side again threatened. They had another attempt which just went past the post. H&H having to defend in numbers at times, James and Jack both involved in getting the ball away.
Radley broke through again, but their shot went into the side netting. Scott went close for the visitors, his effort going just wide. Great challenge by James managed to deter a home forward from getting an effective shot away. Corner followed but Paddy was able to pick up and clear. Another break away by Radley saw their striker shoot over the bar.
With about five minutes remaining, the home side made a further substitution. Radley's constant pressure eventually brought them another goal, Craig Lawson getting his second of the match. His effort hit the underside of the bar but then entered the net despite Paddy's brave attempt to keep it out. Paddy got hurt in the process but managed to resume without much delay.
James continued to have a fine game in the Harwell and Hendred defence. Ricky working hard in midfield. H&H made a substitution, Josh coming off and George going on. Maili made several fine clearances as the home side still pressed forward. With little time left, Scott accelerated down his left wing, pushed a great ball into the goal area to Cody. 8/1/12 Under 11's v Wheatley Boys (Away League Match).
Team Sheet: Paddy Maddock(GK), Calum Sykes, Maili Nugent,
George Broom, Tom Cooper, Harvey Dunsdon, James McFarland,
Ricky Mullins, James Ormrod, Scott Webb, Jack Cooper.
Samuel Barham (sub), Esmond Martin (sub), Cody Mitchell (sub),

Initial game of the New Year saw Harwell and Hendred travel to face bottom club Wheatley Boys, a game which the visitors would be expected to win, but at the same time, a match where complacency might endanger anticipated success.
The visitors had the advantage of a distinct slope as the first half got underway. Early movement by Calum was cleared by the home defenders. Ricky in evidence as the home side pressed. With only just over a minute gone, H&H took the lead, James "O" scoring with ease as he broke through strongly, completely outpacing the Wheatley defenders.
Maili intercepted a Wheatley move forward. Calum and Jack combined to again threaten the home goal, but the keeper was able to come, collect and clear. The visitors' positive approach showed James "O's" efforts win a corner and then the home keeper did well to just keep out a fine attempt by Tom from distance. A great through ball by Calum put James "O" in the clear, but his attempt struck the keeper before going behind for a corner. Corner was cleared, but back came the visitors, Scott forcing a fine save from the Wheatley keeper. H&H increased their lead after six minutes, the hard-working Calum cleverly clipping the ball over the keeper into the net.
Scott again tested the home keeper who saved well, but he was unable to keep out a really powerful shot from the H&H winger shortly afterwards. Calum had put a fine ball through to Scott. Scott had then produced a tremendous effort, and although the keeper got a hand to it, he just couldn't stop it from entering the net. With just eight minutes gone, Harwell and Hendred led by three goals to nil.
The home side tried to respond, but it was difficult for them to create any clear-cut chances, with Maili so much in command at the heart of the away defence. Scott again went close for the visitors, shooting just wide of the post, after being put through by Calum.
H&H made a substitution, James "O" coming off, Cody going on.
Good clearance by Harvey as Wheatley advanced. Paddy came to collect as the home side tried to create something. Scott and Calum again working well together for Harwell and Hendred. A long ball forward saw Cody striving to get possession, the ball eventually falling to Calum, who shot just past the post, as the keeper came out to challenge. Tom, always strong on the ball, trying so hard to find an opening.
H&H took off Calum, Scott and Maili and brought on Samuel, Esmond and Josh.
Tom's long kick forward was collected by the keeper. Harwell and Hendred continued to press. They forced a corner, which Wheatley were able to clear. Cody just shot wide after good approach work by Esmond and Jack. Good defending by George and Josh as the home side tried to put pressure on the visitors. Free kick to H&H, taken by George, saw the ball break to Tom, who then placed a superb effort over the keeper's head as he advanced towards him. With 18 minutes gone, Harwell and Hendred now led by four goals to nil.
Wheatley doing their best to get on the scoresheet. Paddy needed to kick clear as the home side pushed forward. Josh again defending well. Jack placed a fine pass through to Cody, who was unlucky to see his shot just go past the post. The home side created their first real opportunity of the match, shooting just wide when well placed. Wheatley, pressing hard to get back into the game, finally reduced the arrears, Joseph Bowley finding space to produce a fine shot, which gave Paddy no chance.
Clever work by Cody saw him round a defender and then hit a good effort, which went right across the goal, just passing the far post. The home side had to scramble the ball away as Jack and Esmond both looked to go forward. Tom and Ricky much in evidence as the first half reached its final stages. Wheatley, again attacking strongly, then scored a second, William Hayle meeting a cross into the centre to strike the ball home.
Wheatley had fought back well, bringing the deficit now back to 2-4, a warning sign to the visitors not to "rest on their laurels". The home side, encouraged by their second success, continued to attack. Paddy came out to collect on one occasion. Samuel's accurate cross into the Wheatley goal area, fell to Cody, but he was deemed offside. Jack's throw-in to Tom showed the striker produce a fine attempt which just went wide. Wheatley might well have achieved a third goal just before half-time. The home forward found himself well clear, but shot straight straight at Paddy. The away keeper saved well and Wheatley had lost their chance.
Half-Time: Wheatley Boys 2. Harwell and Hendred 4
The second half allowed the home side the benefit of the clear slope in the ground. With their fight-back at the end of the first half fresh in the mind, would they be able to gain further momentum from the use of the pitch incline ?
Harwell and Hendred brought back Maili, Scott, Calum and James "O", replacing Samuel, Tom, Josh and Esmond.
Wheatley controlled early movement forward by Calum, James "O" and Scott. The home side also advanced, but were caught in an offside position. Paddy had to come and collect on successive occasions as the home side threatened. Wheatley forced a corner, but this was well cleared by Jack. Another effort by the home side just went wide. Ricky, James "O" and Cody combining well, searching for an opening. Maili, ably assisted by James "M" were always quick to see danger and clear. The fast-moving James "O", consistently quick to break, struck a good effort just past the post. Almost immediately, he broke away again, his attempt going off a defender into the side netting. The resulting corner, taken by Scott, was cleared only as far as Ricky. Ricky found |George, who then passed to Calum, but the home defence soon closed in, however, and obtained possession. Wheatley won another corner, but it came to nothing. George defending well as usual. The visitors almost got a fifth goal. Movement by Calum to Scott, saw the home keeper come out to challenge. Scott's effort went right across the goal. James "O" raced after the ball, got possession, tried to strike the ball home, but his attempt hit the side netting.
Another period of incessant pressure by the away side followed. Good interplay commencing with James "O" finding Calum, then on to Cody and Scott, before the ball fell to Jack. Jack's powerful effort hit a defender before going for a corner. Corner taken by Calum. Cody and James "O" much involved as the ball came over. Back came Calum, fighting hard for possession. He crossed into the centre again. Scott was there. He couldn't get an effective shot away. He found Jack who produced a fine ball back into the danger area. Somehow Wheatley managed to scramble the ball away, but were clearly fortunate not to have conceded.
The visitors continued to press. Ricky instigated a move towards Scott, who then found Cody. The home defence, so anxious to get the ball away, made a poor clearance. It was unfortunate for Wheatley that the ball fell directly into the path of Jack, who can strike a ball so strongly and accurately. Needless to say that's what occurred, Jack's terrific shot from distance gave the home keeper no chance. H&H were now 5-2 ahead with just eleven minutes of the second half gone.
The industrious Ricky again found Scott, who moved the ball on to Calum, but the home defence closed in and cleared. Just over two minutes had elapsed before the visitors scored again. Scott fed the ball to James "O". His centre into the home goal area was met by the lively Cody, who made no mistake to put his side now 6-2 ahead.
The home side had fought themselves back into the game earlier, but were now looking really vulnerable when H&H threatened. To their credit, Wheatley went forward in an attempt to reduce the arrears. They forced a corner, which was well cleared by the away rearguard. James "O", striding forward, his speed clearly troubling the home defenders. With just 15 minutes gone, the visitors went further in front, Scott's effort from his wing position going into the net, with the keeper seemingly out of his goal. Harwell and Hendred now led 7-2.
Substitutions follwed at this point, Harvey and Jack coming off, to be replaced by Samuel and Josh.
Within a minute, the visitors scored again, James "O's" speed a clear factor in him finding the net, after good work by Calum and Samuel. Halfway through the second half, Harwell and Hendred now led by 8 goals to 2.
Paddy, having a quiet game in the H&H goal, came to collect twice, as Wheatley advanced. The home side broke again, but the resolute Maili was there to get the ball away, the clearance being completed by Ricky. The scoring hadn't yet finished for the visitors. A great ball from Scott saw James "O" in the clear. The striker took full advantage to drive the ball home, thereby achieving his hat-trick and creating the incredible scoreline of 9 goals to 2 in favour of Harwell and Hendred. There were still 12 minutes left to play.
Tom and Esmond came on for H&H, replacing Ricky and James "O".
Paddy came to collect again as the home side tried to give some kind of response. Harwell and Hendred looking to increase their lead further. Scott's movement down the wing, always a source of concern to the opposition. His cross into the middle was met by Cody, who just shot wide. Calum also went close following another Scott centre. Calum caught offside after connecting with a good through ball from Esmond. George, solid at the back, placed a fine ball through to Scott. Scott's trickery and speed took him past a defender to direct an effort goalwards, but his strike went into the side netting. With just seven minutes left, Harwell and Hendred elevated their score into double figures. Tom initiated a move to Cody, then on to Scott. The keeper could not hold Scott's strong shot, and the ever alert Cody rushing in, netted the rebound. We'd now reached 10-2 for the visitors.
The H&H defenders had had a quiet time for most of the second half, with all the action taking place up front, but when called upon, they had carried out their responsibilities with due diligence. James "M", Josh and Harvey all contributing to the cause. The nightmare was still not over for Wheatley. Esmond directed a great ball through to Cody. The home defence hesitated to challenge and made the fatal mistake of allowing Cody to take full advantage. This he did with ease, achieving his own hat-trick and promoting the score to an unbelievable 11-2 for Harwell and Hendred.
The fast-moving Scott continued to threaten. Maili again superb in defence, quick to clear as the home side tried to get forward. Esmond defending well and playing his part in midfield. Wheatley still under pressure, with Tom and Samuel both in evidence. Scott again proving so dangerous, never giving up possession, winning the ball back and placing his pin-point centres into the Wheatley goal area. In dealing with one of these crosses, the home defence cleared, but only straight to Calum. Calum's immediate return was well saved by the home keeper, the ball going behind for a corner. Wheatley cleared the corner. Calum was not to be denied, however. With just over a minute left, he found the back of the net with a fine shot from distance, again after more significant approach work by Scott. We'd now reached 12-2 for the rampant visitors.
Time almost up, but H&H still going forward. Calum's long ball forward met by Tom, but the keeper bravely came out to secure the ball and clear. Scott again accelerating down that left wing produced a wonderful effort which sailed over the keeper's head to complete the scoring at 13-2 for Harwell and Hendred and give the H&H winger a well-deserved hat-trick
Full-Time: Wheatley Boys 2. Harwell and Hendred 13.
Scorers: Wheatley Boys: Joseph Bowley, William Hayle.
Harwell and Hendred: James Ormrod (3), Calum Sykes (2),
Scott Webb (3), Cody Mitchell (3),

What an amazing game. Wheatley looking as though they were going to make a real game of it as the first half ended, and even into the early part of the second half. Harwell and Hendred have some real talent in their squad and they were just so ruthless in that second half.

Harwell and Hendred welcome back Ricky Mullins for this away fixture at Brightwell, a team they had met at Harwell in mid-November, when they had been successful by seven goals to one.
Brightwell looking to get forward early on. Paddy came out to collect as the away side advanced. Calum, working well with James "O" and Scott to try and find an opening, and Cody also prominent as he battled to get possession. Brightwell using the long ball forward, were caught offside, but with just under a few minutes gone, used the same approach to take the lead. Robert Sherwood, picking up a long, through ball, managed to break clear, and then place the ball into the back of an empty net, as Paddy came out to challenge.
Brightwell attacking strongly, but being contained by some resolute defending by Josh, James "M", George and Harvey. The away side with the hard-working Calum much in evidence, looking more dangerous. A fine move, engineered by Calum, saw James "O" shoot just wide of the post. Paddy had to come out and clear as the home side pressed. Brightwell were defending well, but were unable to keep out a terrific effort from Scott, despatched from way out on the left wing. The keeper was unable to get to the ball as it went over his head into the back of the net. Scores now level at one apiece.
The home side responded well, Paddy making a fine save from a great shot by one of the Brightwell forwards. Esmond linking well with James "O", but the home defence intercepted and cleared. Brightwell won a corner, which saw the ball fall directly into the path of a home forward, but he was unable to convert and the chance was gone. Calum put a superb pass through to Cody, the ball then moved on to James "O", then back to Calum, before the home defence intervened and cleared. Back came H&H. Esmond found Calum, who, in turn, passed to Cody. The energetic Cody produced a fine attempt when under pressure, but his shot went straight at the keeper.
Calum at the heart of all forward movement by the visitors, connecting well with Scott and always searching for Cody. Harvey pushed the ball through to Calum, who found Cody. Cody battling for the ball but eventually the home side cleared. H&H keeping up the pressure. Paddy, always watchful, controlling his goal area, coming to collect when required as the visitors tried to get into the game. The committed Calum, noticeably back defending when required. Florence Park having more possession as the game reached its final 15 minutes, but despite this fact, they hardly caused any serious threat. Harvey continued to defend strongly, not alllowing the visitors' forwards any time on the ball.
There was a short stoppage whilst a Florence Park player received attention.

Scott battling away and Calum, using all his talented ability, but the visitors held firm. There was a short stoppage whilst a Milton player needed attention. Play soon resumed.
Milton went further ahead just before the break. A long ball forward was met by Joseph Luker. He managed to divert the ball past the advancing Paddy, and although Maili made a brave effort to get back and clear off the line, she was unable to stop the ball entering the net. Paddy had to come and collect again just as the half-time whistle went.

It seemed inevitable that Harwell and Hendred would score again. Tom, Harvey and Calum kept up the incessant pressure. Another corner to H&H followed, but Brightwell were able to clear. Calum picked up a through ball from Scott, but shot straight at the keeper. The visitors were trying to advance, but they were met by such a competent defence, in which Harvey was battling well alongside the outstanding Maili. With less than three minutes left, H&H finally made their pressure pay. A long ball forward by Scott found Cody in space. He raced away to send a perfect cross into the centre, where Tom was waiting to head home. Final minutes of the game saw H&H still attacking. Interplay between Calum and James "O" produced an opportunity for Cody, but his shot just went over the bar.

The corner created a scramble in the home goal area, the ball bouncing around, before it was finally met by Summertown's Pierce Giles, who headed home to put his side in front for the first time in the match
A remarkable turnaround in the fortunes of the two sides. Having led by three goals to one at the interval, Harwell and Hendred now found themselves 3-4 in arrears, with less than eight minutes to play.

A very cold morning greeted these two teams as they prepared to commence this second round tie. Both clubs are due to meet again in the league shortly, so this game will serve as an indicator of each other's qualities for such future contests.
Rotherfield looking very positive as the game got underway. Paddy required to come and collect on two occasions, as the visitors pushed forward. In their eagerness to get ahead, Rotherfield were frequently caught in an offside position, thereby allowing the home side to clear easily. The visitors continued to have most of the attacking play, shooting wide when well placed. H&H were finding it difficult to make progress against a very competent Rotherfield defence. The lively Cody, working hard to get possession, almost found an opening. The away keeper failed to pick up the ball cleanly as the home forwards rushed in, but he just managed to recover the situation as Cody again threatened.

The keeper was also in action later to collect a header as the visitors advanced. Samuel, Calum, Tom and Esmond all striving hard to create something. Esmond found Jack, whose cross into the goal area was not taken cleanly by the keeper, but he again recovered as Cody rushed in. Tom then went close with a powerful shot, the keeper doing well to turn it behind for a corner. Good interplay between Scott and James resulted in a corner for the home side, but Rotherfield were able to scramble the ball away. The away side, looking a really useful outfit, forced another corner. Paddy made an excellent save close to the post to keep the ball out and then bravely went to collect as a Rotherfield striker advanced.

There was a short stoppage whilst a Rotherfield player received attention.
Harwell and Hendred pushing forward. Tom found Jack, who hit a strong effort, but it went straight at the keeper. Good work by Scott and George saw Tom in the clear, but his first-time attempt just went wide. Rotherfield were also keen to get ahead. Paddy had to come out and clear as the visitors pressed. Calum also went close, the keeper making an excellent save. The ball, however, rebounded to Scott, but his instant attempt went over the bar.
With full-time approaching, Rotherfield did get the ball in the net, but the player was judged offside. The visitors made an immediate response to this incident by putting more pressure on the home goal. This time they did achieve a valid score, Matt Davies achieving his hat-trick, directing the ball past Paddy through a crowded area. Within a minute, the pendulum swung back to the home team, Tom's great effort from distance giving the Rotherfield keeper no chance, and it was all square again at 3-3.
With time running out and the prospect of extra time looming, both sides went in search of a winner. It was evident, however, that their main concern was not to concede, with so little time left. Few chances came in the final minutes. Paddy took possession comfortably as the away side pressed and then kicked clear when a long ball was projected forward. A measured cross by Samuel found Esmond, but the Rotherfield defenders closed in before he could get a shot away. A final attempt by Scott went straight at the keeper.

A free kick, taken by Scott, just went past the post. With just literally seconds left, this amazing game took another twist when Rotherfield found an equaliser through Ollie Wagstaffe to take the contest to penalties.
End of Extra-Time: Harwell and Hendred 4. Rotherfield United 4.
Scorers: Harwell and Hendred: Tom Cooper(2), Calum Sykes, Jack Cooper.
Rotherfield United: Matt Davies (3). Ollie Wagstaffe.
Five players from each side lined up to take the dreaded penalties. Both sides missed their first penalty, before Tom scored to give H&H the lead. Rotherfield missed their second and third kicks, H&H their third, before Scott settled the nerves by netting to give the home side a two goal lead. Ed Bloomer got one back for Rotherfield, but with both teams missing their final penalties, Harwell and Hendred were the winners by two goals to one.
An incredible game, not easy on the nerves of players and spectators alike. Harwell and Hendred did so well to come back three times from being one goal down. Rotherfield contributed so much to a fine, exciting game and should be congratulated on the fine performance they gave.

23/10/11. Under 11's v Hinksey Park (Away League Match).
Team Sheet: Paddy Maddock (GK), Calum Sykes, James MacFarland,
Harvey Dunsdon, Josh Legge, Scott Webb, Tom Cooper, Jack Cooper,
Esmond Martin, George Broom, Cody Mitchell.
Samuel Barham (sub), Maili Nugent (sub).
Harwell and Hendred, looking to continue their recent impressive form, travelled to Oxford for what appeared to be a difficult away fixture against a
Hinksey Park side, who'd had mixed fortunes in the league programme to date.
The designated referee had not arrived in time to take control of the game and a representative from the hosts agreed to deputise until the nominated official
arrived,
An early shock for the visitors, when, within a minute, Hinksey Park had scored. The home side had gone forward at speed, the ball projected into the danger area, where indecision and failure to clear, allowed Hinksey several attempts before they finally found the net. Harwell and Hendred forced a corner, which was cleared by the home defence, and then George almost found Cody with a fine pass, only for a defender to get to the ball first. Hinksey looked a lively outfit as they pressed forward. George and Josh made good clearances as the home side advanced. A cross into the H&H goal area almost produced a second goal for the home team, their striker somehow putting his effort over the bar when positioned on the goal line.
H&H came back, Scott forcing a good save from the keeper. Calum tried to pick up the loose ball. It eventually fell to Scott who centred. Cody got his head on the ball in what was a congested goal area, but his attempt hit the side of the post and went behind for a goal kick to Hinksey. Good interception by George and another fine clearance by Josh, as the home side attacked strongly. H&H forced another corner and then good work by Scott, finding Tom, whose shot hit a defender on the line. The defender managed to clear, but the visitors were now beginning to create chances. The talented Calum, always quick to find an opening, was being closely marked.
After about 10 minutes, the visitors made a substitution, Maili coming on to replace George.
Scott and Cody both looking to latch on to a long ball forward, but the ball eluded them and went behind for a goal kick. The visitors had another corner, from which Jack and Esmond almost found a way through. Harvey and James coping well with the Hinksey attack. The home side again went close, when their particularly lively winger broke down the left wing. He put a fine cross into the H&H goal area, where it was met by a Hinksey forward, who, fortunately for the visitors, put his effort wide.
After about 16 minutes of the first half, the appointed referee came and took over the duties from the temporary official, who had started the game.
Hinksey Park, very quick and purposeful, when they advanced. They again threatened, a good effort being just hacked away by Paddy. The clearance completed by Harvey. The home side forced a corner, which was cleared away by Maili, supported by Harvey. Cody went down under a tackle, but soon resumed. Maili and Josh defending well as the home side stepped up the pressure. Another attempt was kicked away by Paddy, before Hinksey found the net for the second time. The ball, going loose following a partially cleared shot, fell into the path of a Hinksey forward, who made no mistake.
Cody and Scott combined for Scott to send a fine ball right across the Hinksey goal area, but no one was there to take advantage. Cody again involved, forcing a corner for H&H. A free kick for the visitors produced another corner, the ball being diverted just past the post as it struck a Hinksey defender. The corner was cleared but Harwell and Hendred continued to press with Josh, Tom and Scott doing their utmost to create something. Tom cleverly beat two defenders, put a great cross into the middle, which the keeper did well to come and collect. Paddy was able to pick up and clear as the home side went forward. A tremendous shot by Scott was pushed on to the bar by the keeper, the ball going for a corner, which was dealt with successfully by Hinksey. The home side won a corner just before half-time, but it came to nothing.
Half-time: Hinksey Park 2, Harwell and Hendred 0.
No changes at the start of the second half. Play very scrappy at the start of the half, the ball being put into touch a great deal. Scott prominent with his quick runs down the wing. Calum and Tom striving to find an opening, but Hinksey were quick to the tackle and clear. It was the fast-moving Scott who proved to be the architect of the opening goal for the visitors. He won possession in midfield, immediately sent a long ball forward, where it was picked up by the ever alert Cody. The H&H striker took his opportunity with great composure, producing a fine shot which the keeper could not reach.
Samuel came on at this juncture, Jack coming off.
With less than a minute gone, Hinksey Park restored their two-goal advantage. A sliced clearance out of defence generated a cruel bounce as it reached the H&H goal area, giving Paddy little chance as he desperately tried to keep it out.
Now 3-1 ahead, the home side went forward again. They had the ball in the net, but their player was ruled offside. Paddy came out and gained possession as Hinksey threatened once more. Maili always quick to clear as the home side pressed. The home forwards were caught offside twice in their eagerness to get ahead.
After eight minutes of the second half, Harwell and Hendred made a further substitution, Esmond and Josh coming off to be replaced by Jack and George.
Paddy again came out to collect and clear on two separate occasions. Shortly afterwards, Harwell and Hendred reduced the arrears to 3-2, when Tom's ball forward was not dealt with by the home defence, the ball breaking to Cody whose first-time effort hit the back of the net. Hinksey Park responded by forcing a corner and then Paddy did well to get possession within a melee of players as his goal came under threat. Jack cleared a further attack from Hinksey, who forced another corner, met by Harvey, the clearance completed by Calum. The game again became a little scrappy with the ball being put out of play from time to time. George and Maili defending well as Hinksey won another corner, which was cleared away by Calum. Scott, again racing down the wing, produced another fine delivery into the danger area. Jack met the cross but his effort just went narrowly wide. Samuel took a free kick which also just went wide of the post..
Another great cross from Scott gave some concern to the Hinksey defence, the keeper managing to push the ball clear as Jack rushed in. At the other end, Paddy collected a long ball projected forward. George made a fine interception, then pushed the ball forward, where it was picked up by Calum. Calum beat a defender cleverly and then produced a terrific effort to find the corner of the net and bring the scores level at 3-3.
James, Maili and Jack looking strong in defence as Hinksey tried to recapture the initiative. It was clear, however, that the home side were beginning to appear more vulnerable as the visitors went for the winner. Scott, always able to trouble the home rearguard, linking well with Tom. A cross from Scott again caused some concern to the home defenders, who were just not able to clear their lines. James quickly got possession and put a fine ball back into the danger area, where it initially found Scott, but then broke to Cody. The H&H striker, well aware of the opportunity, let loose a powerful shot, which gave the keeper no chance, as it flew past him into the net. Cody had achieved his hat-trick and Harwell and Hendred were in front for the first time in the match.
With only eight minutes left, James came off, to be replaced by Josh.
Calum and Scott working well together to force a corner. Jack took the spot-kick which saw both Tom and Samuel threatening. Cody latched on to the loose ball, but just shot wide. The outstanding Scott again put over another great cross, which was sliced away by a defender for a further corner, which was cleared. With just six minutes left, Hinksey Park made two substitutions. They tried to advance into the H&H half, but Maili and Calum were there to clear. The visitors continued to dominate. The home side conceded another corner, taken by Tom. Cody and Samuel both looked menacing as the spot kick came over, but Hinksey managed to scramble the ball away. Paddy came to collect and clear as the home side pushed forward. Paddy's clearance went straight to Jack. Jack found Samuel, who then passed a great ball back to Jack. Jack and Calum had an interchange of passes before Jack found Cody, the ball then falling to Scott, who hit a superb effort into the back of the net. H&H absolutely rampant now. Samuel and Jack, working together, forced a corner, but it was cleared.
With three minutes left, Esmond came on, with Scott coming off.
Following another corner, Cody again went close with the keeper making a fine save. Full-time now approaching as Jack took another corner. The ball almost reached Esmond as the keeper came to collect. Tom then had an effort which just went wide.
Full-time: Hinksey Park 3. Harwell and Hendred 5.
Scorers: Hinksey Park: Alfie Wilson, Brandon Reynolds, Own Goal.
Harwell & Hendred: Cody Mitchell (3), Calum Sykes, Scott Webb.
Another amazing result for this improving Harwell and Hendred side, who showed such resilience to come back from a 3-1 deficit and record such an emphatic victory. A great result from what was a totally remarkable performance. Spare a thought for Hinksey Park, who contributed so much to this most entertaining game, and who must rue some of the chances that were not taken during the first half.
