Berks and Bucks Cup 4th Round, U15's away to Grove Challengers :: 05-12-16 22:43:58 UTC :: posted by Julian Clarke

Under 15’s advance into the quarter finals of the Berks and Bucks Cup with a 3 nil away win at Grove Challengers.

4th December 2016 Berks and Bucks Cup 4th round, H&H under 15’s Away to Grove Challengers, 1.30pm ko

Starting line up: Cameron, Brian, Cairan (Capt) Ben, Archie, Tom, Dan, Matt, Zac, Jaja, Fish, Subs: Josh, Alex, Jack

On a warm(ish) sunny afternoon H&H under 15’s travelled to Grove Challengers in the Berks and Bucks Cup 4th Round tie. Grove kicked off the match but soon found themselves pegged back into their half as H&H dictated the tone of the game, Grove defended well with 10 players behind the ball and cleared a couple of early H&H corners, 11 minutes played and Grove had their first attack, lacking players for support, the move soon fizzled out and H&H resumed to direct the pace and tempo of the match. 18 minutes in and a deep corner from Zac was met firmly by Archie’s head (or maybe his quiff?) and H&H had the game’s first goal. H&H then made their first substitution of the game with Jaja coming off and Jack coming on. Soon after Grove had an opportunity to equalize, from a long clearance by Grove and helped by an untimely slip by a defender the Grove striker suddenly found himself with space to run into, his strike on goal was probably taken a shade early and the effort was comfortably saved by Cameron. A few minutes later and H&H had the ball in Groves 6 yard box, the subsequent goal mouth scramble was cleared in the end by the Grove keeper at the expense of a corner, which was also cleared by Grove. Another H&H corner saw the ball again reach Archie, his header this time going back across goal for Fish to head goal wards, the Grove keeper made a great reflex save to prevent the goal, unfortunately for Grove the ball dropped nicely for Jack who made no mistake putting the ball into the net for 2 nil. For the remainder of the half H&H continued to have control of the tie yet were unable to add to the score.

Half time: Grove Challengers 0 - H&H 2

2nd Half substitutions: Josh replacing Ben in defence and Alex replaced Tom on the right of midfield

H&H started the 2nd half and seemed determined to add to the score, and in the first minute Archie’s cross/shot was saved by the keeper, a couple of minutes later and H&H had a free kick in a great position on the left, just outside the Grove penalty area, on this occasion Zacs attempt didn’t really trouble the Grove goal. H&H continued to have the lion’s share of possession and Grove continued to defend with most of their team behind the ball, H&H tried to mix things up a bit moving Alex to striker and Jack to the wing, neat passing and good work down the H&H left found Archie with the ball in plenty of space 20 yards from goal, his shot saved by the keeper. H&H made a substitution bringing Tom back on for Zac, H&H still searched for another goal and a through ball from Archie to Fish was flagged off side. A further substitution by H&H and Fish made way for Ben and additional changes to the formation, Matt going up front and Ben going into the midfield. More good work on H&H’s left resulted in a pass to Matt, with his back to goal he deftly flicked the ball over the defender, his quick turn and first time shot found the back of the net to score his first goal for H&H and make the score 3 nil H&H.

Full time: Grove Challenger 0 – Harwell and Hendred 3

Scorers: Archie, Jack, Matt.
