8th January 2017 Berks and Bucks Cup H&H under 15’s Home to MK Gallacticos, 13.30pm ko

Starting line up: Cameron, Brian, Josh, Ben, Archie, Zac, Ciaran (Capt) Matt, Jack, Jaja, Fish, Subs: Tom, Alex, Aaron.

The under 15’s first match of 2017 saw them entertain MK Gallacticos Spartans at Boundary park in the Quarter Finals of the Berks and Bucks Cup.

After the recent cold weather the boundary park pitch was in a reasonable condition although the ground was a little heavy underfoot.

Harwell and Hendred kicked off the first half and immediately probed the MK defence with Jaja stretching their defence with a fine cutback pass after a strong run down the right, unfortunately there was no-one available from H&H to get on the end of it, MK decided to get in on the action and from a long kick downfield the ball evaded the outrushing H&H keeper, with goal at his mercy the MK strikers shot was blocked by Josh making a lunging last ditch tackle, soon after MK had another goal scoring chance from a free kick from the right, Cameron getting his hand to the ball to put it over for a corner. H&H nearly had the first goal of the game after 7 minutes, a corner from the right was met by Fish, his header going over the bar, a minute later and MK had another free kick just outside the H&H area, the well struck free kick just going over the bar. Finally after 9 minutes H&H got the break through goal, from a cross from the left by Zac, Jacks header hit the post and went across the goal mouth where Fish was on hand to prod the ball into the net 1 nil H&H. With 16 minutes played Archie went on a run down the right, his cross picked out Zac whose shot went just wide of the upright, 5 minutes later and the MK goal keeper made an outstanding save from a well struck shot from Zac. A few minutes later and H&H made the first substitution of the game, Alex coming on to replace Jack on the right side of midfield. With the score at 1 nil MK were still in the match and they had another good opportunity to equalise with a free kick 10yds outside the H&H area, the free kick was blocked by the H&H wall. On the half hour Alex intercepted a ball thrown out by the MK keeper and charged into the MK area, Alex’s shot was well saved by the keeper but again Fish was on hand to poke in the loose ball to take the score to 2 nil to H&H. Not longer after and Alex tested the MK keeper again who again made another great save to keep the score at 2 nil. MK applied pressure of their own on the H&H goal and were almost rewarded with a goal, the striker’s deft chip just going over the cross bar, a few minutes later and MK did get on the score sheet pushing down the right hand side and with H&H backing off the MK attacker had only 1 option – shoot so he did and the ball found the back of the net 2-1, just before the half time whistle Jaja put the ball in the back of the net, however the goal was disallowed by the referee for a foul on the MK defender.

Half Time: Harwell & Hendred 2 – MK Gallacticos 1

H&H brought on Aaron for Matt, Aaron went on the right with Alex moving into the centre of midfield.

MK Gallacticos kicked off the 2nd half seemingly in a buoyant mood, this didn’t last long however, with few options available Zac took a pot shot from the left edge of the penalty area which the keeper was unable to hold and the ball crept into the net for 3-1, 5 minutes later and a probing cross from Zac was headed just wide by Fish, a minute later and Fish had another shot go just wide of the goal. 10 minutes played and it was Jaja’s turn to get on the score sheet, a precise pass from Brian to Jaja enabled him to use his strength to go past the defender and slot the ball into the far corner, the score now 4-1 to H&H. Jaja then scored his 2nd goal a few minutes later, Alex now playing in the centre of midfield fed a ball into Jaja’s path, his firm strike finding the back of the net, 5-1 H&H. Very shortly Jaja had his hatrick, from a poor goal kick Jaja pounced on the ball and smashed home his hatrick goal, 6-1 H&H. Barely 2 minutes had elapsed when Zac scored his 2nd and H&H’s 7th goal. With 15 minutes of the match to go H&H made a substitution, Tom coming on for Brian at left back. Zac took a free kick from the left, his neat strike bounced just in front of the keeper who was unable to prevent Zacs hatrick goal and the score moving to 8-1. H&H made another substitution with Jack coming back on to replace Aaron on the right of midfield. With 10 minutes to go Alex got on the end of a deep cross from the left, the MK keeper making another outstanding save at the expense of a corner. MK pressed for another goal of their own and had a good opportunity with a free kick just outside the H&H area, the initial free kick was well blocked by the H&H wall, the ball falling nicely for an MK player who smashed the ball into the H&H goal, 8-2. With Jack now making a nuisance of himself on the right he intercepted a throw in from an MK defender, going past another MK defender, Jack fed a pass straight into the path of Fish who struck a firm shot past the outstretched hands of the keeper and into the back of the net for his hatrick goal, 9-2. H&H then made another substitution, Brian came back on to replace Zac who had taken a knock to his knee. With time running out the MK keeper had the last major say in the game, pulling off yet another fantastic save from a fierce shot from Jaja

Full time: Harwell & Hendred 9 – MK Gallacticos 2

Scorers: Fish 3, Jaja 3, Zac 3.
