H&H U15’s keep their unbeaten League performance intact with a 4-1 away win at Abingdon United

Starting Line up: Cameron, Brian, Josh, Ben, Archie, Ciaran (capt) Matt, Zac, Jaja, Fish, Subs: Tom, Dan, Aaron.

Harwell and Hendreds first League game of 2017 saw them travel to the Northcourt Road ground of Abingdon United who are currently 3rd in the League winning 3 out of their last 4 league games. With the overnight rain not abating the game started with Abingdon kicking off the first half, with barely 2 minutes played a strong run by Jaja into the left side of penalty area resulted in a penalty to H&H when the ref adjudged Jaja had been fouled by the Abingdon defender, Fish stepped up to take the penalty and coolly slotted the ball into corner of the goal for 1 nil to H&H. Jaja continued to create problems for the Abingdon defenders and had two attempts just miss the goal. An injury to an Abingdon player after 16 minutes ended a promising H&H attack on the edge of the Abingdon penalty area, thankfully after some treatment from the Abingdon physio the injured player was able to continue playing, from the resulting drop ball Jack won the ball and quickly crossed the ball into the middle of the penalty area where Abingdon were able to clear the danger. A free kick taken by Jack saw some neat quick passing between Archie and Matt with the final pass coming to Fish who shot in to the corner of the goal for 2 nil. Fish nearly had his hatrick when the Abingdon keeper handled the ball outside the penalty area, Fish spotting the keeper taking his time to get back into the goal quickly placed the ball and took the free kick which just went wide of the far post. The H&H midfield were dominating the middle of the park, in particular Matt who was finding space everywhere and linking play nicely between defence and attack, combining with Zac just outside the area resulted in a shot from Zac being tipped over by the keeper for a corner, minutes later the same pair brought another save from the keeper from another shot from Zac, with 5 minutes of the half time remaining Matt’s dominance in midfield was rewarding with a goal, a cross from Jack to Jaja who laid the ball back to Matt his first time shot clipping the inside of the post and into the net to make the score 3 nil. With hardly any injury time to play the ref signalled the end of the first half. Half time score Abingdon Utd 0-3 Harwell & Hendred

Halftime substitutions, Dan coming on for Jack with Matt moving to the right of midfield.

H&H kicked of the second half and immediately went in search of more goals and within the first minute Zac tested the Abingdon with a free kick from 5 yards outside the penalty area just going over the bar. Minutes later and neat passing from Dan to Matt to Jaja saw the Abingdon keeper make another good save putting ball out for a Harwell corner. After 7 minutes the Abingdon keeper was again brought into action again, from a corner taken by Matt on the left the ball was hit goal wards by a unknown Harwell player, the keeper getting a hand to the ball to push it onto the crossbar and eventually away by a defender. With the changes H&H had made in midfield Abingdon were now able to have a bit more success in this area and had several forays in the Harwell half and were looking more a bit more dangerous, once such attack down the Harwell left flank resulted in free kick to Abingdon united, the well struck free kick unfortunately eluded the Harwell keeper and despite a last ditch attempt by a defender he was unable to stop the ball going into the net to make the score 1-3, H&H quickly made a substitution bring Tom on for Archie and moving Brian to right back. The game ebbed and flowed for the next 15 minutes with H&H having most of the possession. Aaron came on the pitch to replace Ciaran with 15 minutes to go, H&H had several more corners most notably a well taken corner saw Josh bravely attacking the ball with the keeper just managing to get to the ball first to clear the danger. From a promising looking Abingdon attack Dan broke up the play in the Harwell penalty box, quickly passing the ball to Tom in space on the left who made an equally accurate pass to Zac in the middle opened up the field nicely for Zac to make a defence splitting pass up to Jaja who made no mistake in putting the ball in the net for 4-1 H&H. A final substitution brought Jack back on the pitch to replace Aaron.

Final score Abingdon United 1 – Harwell and Hendred 4 Scorers: Fish 2, Matt 1, Jaja 1.
